Fresh Water Pearls are highly unique and beautiful at best. They are called fresh water pearls because they are made from freshwater mussels. Not only are they produced in the United States but they are produced in Japan as well. Unfortunately they are produced on a limited scale. And this is why they are considered to be unique. Freshwater pearl are no longer allowed to be called by this name, instead the Federal trade commission refers for them to be called fresh water cultured pearls.
The Biwa Pearly mussel was responsible for creating the freshwater pearl in Lake Biwa. And it now holds a significant place in history due to it’s non existence. The only country that currently produces fresh water pearls is China, whom ended up producing around 1500 tons in the year 2005. To this day Freshwater pearls are unique and gorgeous in their own right, rare to not only us but to the world.
