French country house style is very fashionable at the moment.
I recently visited a lovely small chateau in France which had some great examples of French country house style.
The basement kitchen was full of marvellous, antique copper pans, displayed on an impressive carved oak buffet. In the granite fireplace was a traditional French cast iron range with a cast iron kettle and cast iron cookpots.
Upstairs, the reception rooms had wonderful, traditional French furniture with a stylish grandfather banjo-cased clock in the hallway. The oak fireplace held two large brass candlesticks with a very impressive cast iron firegrate beneath.
Upstairs, in the many bedrooms, were some fabulous cast iron and brass French beds, covered in fine French linen. In the garden were some wonderful granite troughs and copper planters and pretty galvanised pots in the vegetable garden.
It was a wonderful day out and was a great example of the traditional French country house style. |

You may be wondering why people are not using tiles to roof their houses and yet they are very attractive and classy. What we may not have known is the issue of costs. I know of the importance of working hard being that I came from a poor family where we hard to work very hard to fend for our upkeep. After the death of my dad, mum was left a lone to take care of us and since she did not have a job, we had to help her by finding other things to do for our own survival. Life was not easy then but I had learnt the importance of hard work and hard to apply it in whichever way possible for me to be able to compensate the hardship with something good at the end of it all. Fortunately, in my search for a job, I got a call that needed to train electricians and later after, offer a job. For sure, we got employed with a meager pay for a start but soon afterwards, our salaries increased. And now that I am a 24 hr electrician, I am not letting go this career. This is because I know the much that I get in it that has worked well in turning my life around. |

Mom, I know I promised I would come home in time for your birthday. I would have wanted to be there, believe me. But something came up at work. There is an urgent matter that I need to attend to. My boss said that I could only go if everything here is settled. I am really sorry, mom. But I will try my best to make it up to you somehow. Please say you forgive me. Lucy's mom was almost in tears as she was listening to her daughter on the other line. She knew how much Lucy would have really wanted to come for a short vacation. Don't worry about it, Lucy. I am not upset at all. Just the same, we will all be waiting for you, whenever you can come. By the way, did you know that the house is under renovation? Lucy was surprised. Yes, it is. Your brother wanted it to have a new look. As we're talking now your dad is out there discussing with the contractors regarding slating and tiling details. You know how particular your dad is when it comes to these things, don't you? Mom, that gives me another reason to really go there, soon. I will definitely see all of you soon. |

A few years has passed since we celebrated our new millenia and with it drags a few problems from the previous that which we have deliberately downplayed or been less attentive to the issue of global warming, depletion of fossil fuels and other energy resources and the obvious, constant threat of pollution. Finding the solution to the problems mentioned is not a straight forward road at which the world could just change like a flick of a switch but it is also not an impossible task either. Clean energy or renewable/green energy such as wind farms and solar panels have been described as the alternative, if not the only solution, to minimize or removed the problems we are facing today. The advantages of clean energy is that it is sustainable, low cost of operation and most importantly produces minimal waste which minimizes impact on the environment around all of us. |

Changes come whether we want it or not. The season changes from spring to summer to autumn to winter. We change our looks and our style of dressing. We follow the trend or fads that become popular. One of my friends invited me over to her house for a small gathering and I was surprised that instead of the party being held in the living room it was done in their garage. It was actually a very practical idea and I was impressed on how organized and spacious her garage was. You could hardly tell that it is just a space where she parks her car. There are numerous garage wall cabinets in interesting designs that actually provides aesthetic value to the room and most importantly free up the room with clutter. Most of the guests are talking about the same things that I have observed and we readily told my friend about it and complemented her for making her garage both practical and functional. The party was fun everybody was in the mood to make it a success. Even though I only knew few of the guests, it didn’t stop me from mingling and having a good time since everyone was friendly. |

My friends and I planned a great weekend get-away just to catch up with each others lives and get away from the city. We are not particularly fond of engaging in physical or adventure-filled activities, we just want to relax and chat until dawn. I was in charge of finding the perfect place and I did, it was a huge log cabin in the countryside with a stone outdoor fireplace where we can barbecue, talk, and sip hot drinks all night while gazing at the moon and stars. I have been there once, alone, when I needed to finish a project and I was having a hard time concentrating in the city. The moment I told my friends and showed them pictures they were all excited and they cannot wait for the weekend to come. I am glad that I will have the opportunity to get a breather with the people that I love the most because I am already experiencing burnout from work. |

You’ve probably bought your new spice grinder and found how convenient it is to use in the kitchen. While you are happily grinding away you probably remembered that you forgot to ask the store clerk how to clean out the grinder after using it. Well basically, the spice grinder’s main feature is its rotary blades which you should take utmost care in cleaning. In some models, these blades can be detachable so you can easily wash them with a little soap and water then properly dry them up before reattaching.
With other spice grinders the blades is impossible to remove. You will need to use a small dry paint brush to clean away the residue of the spices that you just grounded. They you can use a soft wet paper towel or small cloth to wipe the grinding bowl clean. One thing you must remember that if your grinder has a plastic lid, avoid grinding cloves with it. Cloves leave an oil residue which is difficult to clean off a plastic cover. |

I have gone to houses that shout and scream safety hazard from afar. You will not find me living in such houses even if I got paid to do so, I would rather even spend a night in a shelter than such an unsafe house. Why am I saying this? If you go to a house that has old paint all over the walls, this paint is wearing or, and due to a leaking roof, the paint has started running and you can even get the scent of paint and if you are not careful, then you could get paint poisoning very easily. Another very dangerous thing that you will notice with unsafe houses, is the naked sockets that have not been protected by any protective insulation, people who live there have never even thought of hiring an electrician who can fix the sockets which can cause electric shock to people living there. It is hard to believe that there are people who live in such houses but they exist, Not everyone can afford an electrician or not even many people think they would need one. What they do not realize that even if they think that they are saving a lot of money by not maintaining the house, they are living in a very unsafe place and if they are not careful demise will follow them soon. |

Frozen pipes will lead to leaking pipes if not dealt properly. When your pipe leak and makes the inside of the house wet it will cause a very costly damage. The plumber has to replace a damage pipeline. Here are some tips to avoid frozen pipes. During night in a very cold weather, leave the faucets just a little open this is to allow water inside the pipeline moving. A still water is easily to frost that a moving water. When leaving the house or during the night when nobody will use the water faucet close your main pipe line and drain all the water in your pipe line in this way there is not water to freeze. Open the kitchen cabinet doors under sinks to allow the warm air inside the house to circulate to the pipes under the sink. Before winter season comes, call your local plumber and have your piping system insulated. |
